Biography

Chris Ulrey is a guitarist-songwriter who combines melodic melodies with powerful rhythms all while keeping you progressively grooving.

Chris was born in California and started playing guitar when he was 20 years old. He is completely self-taught and learned how to play by locking myself in his room and playing along with Edward Van Halen and Steve Vai for hours and hours a day, every day.

Chris has many influences when it comes to his guitar playing and song writing. If he had to narrow it down to his five biggest influences he said as far as his guitar playing goes it would have to be:

  • Edward Van Halen
  • Steve Vai
  • Joe Satriani
  • Randy Rhoads
  • Eric Johnson

Then as far as songwriters go it would have to be:

  • Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)
  • Dave Mustanie (Megadeth)
  • Tobias Sammet (Edguy, Avantasia)
  • Steve Vai
  • Joe Satriani

When you listen to his music you can clearly hear all of their influences in his guitar playing, song writing, arrangements, and techniques.

Chris has always stayed true to himself and the hard rock/heavy metal style of music he loves when writing, recording, and performing whether it is in his solo career which is completely instrumental or with the bands he plays in.

Over the course of his career he has performed with many different musicians, has done many guest appearances with individual musicians and bands, as well as played full time in the following bands:

  • Lost Souls
  • Guardians of Fire
  • Phantom Relic
  • Trapped Under Ice (Metallica Tribute)
  • Symphony of Hangar 18 (Megadeth Tribute)
  • Chaos Blade
  • Children of the Damned (Iron Maiden Tribute)
